So what is Tahiti ???? a country – an island- a city?
Let me explain…….
I can’t tell you how many of our guests join us on tours confused about where they are!
They had the dream, the time, at last the money, saw the deal and booked the overwater bungalow in Paradise! But are not quite sure where they are.
Tahiti, on so many peoples bucket list for so many reasons. Marked for life by the success of the ‘Bounty Bar’ adverts through the 70s and into the 90s ‘The taste or PARADISE’ or the famous 1979 Cussons Imperial Leather advert ‘Tahiti looks nice’ many Paradise seekers arrive here not sure about where they are.
Tahiti is an island, Papeete is a city, French Polynesia is a county (a French Territory) whose connection is as follows;
Papeete is the capital city, on the island of Tahiti in the country of French Polynesia!
Many of you may have thought Tahiti is a country, wrong! It’s the biggest and the most recently formed of 118 South Pacific islands that together with an enormous amount of ocean form the overseas Territory of French Polynesia
The idea of Tahiti being a county has been largely reinforced by Tahiti Tourism! French Polynesia rarely mentioned, no doubt because everyone has heard of Tahiti. Tahiti Tourism refer to ‘The islands of Tahiti’ on their website. The key hash tags #tahitietsesisle #visittahiti some of the most frequently used.
With the exception of the Pacific people and the French, who has heard of French Polynesia?
Tahiti is home to the International airport of Faa’a
So once you have booked your luxury overwater bungalow in one of Bora Boras all inclusive resorts, remember the island that your International flight arrive to first is Tahiti. From the island of Tahiti you will take a domestic flight to the outer islands Bora, Moorea , Huahine or Raitaea to name a few
But STOP before you disappear to the outter islands remember to discover the island of Tahiti, its diversity and beauty will both amaze and inspire you. On pre or post vacation dont waste the opportunity to visit the biggest and most newly formed of all the French Polynesian islands
Prepare yourselves to be blown away by what I am lucky enough to call ‘my island home’
